Not Programs.
Most organizations manage workplace well-being as a program. I help build the strategy, alignment, and systems that connect it to the outcomes that drive organizational performance.

For more than 15 years, I have led enterprise well-being strategy in some of the most complex, mission-driven organizations in the country: NASA's Johnson Space Center, MD Anderson Cancer Center, and, most recently, Emory Healthcare, where I served as the inaugural Chief Well-Being Officer and led system-wide well-being strategy across the Woodruff Health Sciences Center, a 41,500-employee academic health ecosystem. I also currently serve in national leadership roles with the American Nurses Association as Co-Chair of the Nurse Fatigue Workgroup and past Co-Chair and current Emeritus Member on the Healthy Nurse Healthy Nation Advisory Committee.
That work produced measurable results — reductions in burnout, improved professional fulfillment, expanded access to and utilization of emotional well-being resources, and workforce-driven operational improvements that reduced friction in daily workflows. Those experiences also reinforced a clear lesson: sustainable improvements in workplace well-being cannot be achieved through programs alone. They require leaders who demonstrate accountability for the workforce experience, work design that eliminates friction, measurement that drives decisions, and cultures where people feel connected and supported. Workplace well-being is not one department's responsibility. It is an organizational strategy.
I founded E.L. Thoman Advisory to help organizations move beyond siloed programs and make workplace well-being a strategic driver of organizational performance.
How We Work Together.
You do not need more programs. You need a workplace well-being strategy embedded in how your organization leads, operates, and performs. The six advisory services below are organized across four areas of engagement: Lead, Build, Optimize, and Scale. Organizations can engage at any point based on their priorities, existing capabilities, and desired outcomes.
Not every challenge requires a larger strategic engagement. The Executive Advisory Session provides a dedicated hour to discuss current challenges, evaluate opportunities, and clarify next steps.
Executive Advisory Session
A focused advisory session for leaders seeking experienced guidance on a specific workplace well-being challenge. Unlike an introductory conversation, this session provides actionable recommendations, strategic perspective, and clear next steps.
Fractional Chief Well-Being Officer
Workplace well-being deserves executive leadership, even when a full-time executive is not the right fit. For organizations that need experienced executive guidance but are not ready for a permanent CWO, I embed at the leadership level to build strategy, create alignment, and ensure workplace well-being is represented where decisions get made.
Workplace Well-Being Strategy
Many workplace well-being efforts struggle because they are managed as activity calendars rather than organizational strategies. I work with you to build a clear strategy that aligns with leadership priorities, establishes measurable objectives, and positions workplace well-being as a driver of workforce and organizational performance.
Workplace Belonging and Culture
Belonging isn't a feeling - it's a signal, and it often reveals itself long before people disengage, stop speaking up, or leave the organization. I help leaders strengthen the conditions that support belonging - psychological safety, connection, visibility, voice, and mattering — to improve engagement, retention, and team performance.
Well-Being Portfolio Review
Organizations often invest in multiple workplace well-being initiatives without a clear understanding of how those investments work together. I review existing efforts to identify strengths, gaps, redundancies, and opportunities to improve impact, alignment, and resource allocation.
Burnout Risk & Work Environment Assessment
Burnout is a signal that the work environment needs attention. I help organizations identify the workplace conditions and barriers driving burnout risk - and advise on where to focus, what to change, and how to prioritize action that improves the work environment and workforce performance.
Well-Being Champion Network Development
You cannot be everywhere, but influence can be embedded throughout the organization. I help organizations build well-being champion networks that create local ownership, strengthen communication, and extend strategic reach across departments.
